Experienced skiers are likely to have a firm favourite with regards to skiing destinations and so many skiers return to the same area time and time again. That said, there are some lesser known ski destinations and other well known spots that may well be even more tempting. With solo travellers and skiing families keen to escape to the slopes and embrace winter fully, it is important to assess some of the most welcoming and entertaining destinations available.

Below are five of the top ski destinations for those looking to take a break this winter.

Lapland, Finland

Lapland may be the most exceptional Christmas destination and guaranteed to offer an abundance of festive atmosphere, but the area is also an excellent skiing destination.

Predominantly, the ski resort of Levi is a wonderful destination for those looking to enjoy a variety of other activities after enjoying the slopes. Kitzbuhel, Austria

Novices to the slopes can enjoy exceptional school opportunities. Furthermore, Val d’Isere offers ones of the best retail experiences and nightlife opportunities of any ski resort worldwide.

Davos, Switzerland

Davos is the largest ski resort in Switzerland and also boasts being the highest city in Europe. Davos is a favourite amongst skiers and snowboarders and offers five different skiing areas.

This is a prime destination for a friendly family ski break as youngsters are welcomed and encouraged as warmly as adults.

Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany

At a height of nearly 10,000 feet, Germany’s highest mountain, Zugspitze offers wonderful glacier tip skiing experiences. This area offers 75 miles of downhill skiing and 68 miles of cross-country possibilities.

With a welcoming environment for all abilities and an abundance of accommodation options, this part of Germany is not as well-known as others, but has an awful lot to offer.
